Renewable Energy Becomes a Nations Top Priority

Maldives, or the Maldive Islands off the coast of India has declared its goal to become the first carbon neutral nation. Although it may be the smallest Asian nation not only by geographical area but also by population President Mohammed Nasheed said the country will build a solar and wind power infrastructure and even buy carbon offsets for tourists visiting the nation. The goal is to “become carbon-neutral in a decade” and the plan is estimated at $1.1 billion dollars but the country only makes $800 million a year.
Sounds like a publicity stunt to spark tourism to the country but if going green is the goal it might just work for this little nation.
